In order to conserve its resources in the long term and support the protection of the environment, the Football and Athletics Association of Westphalia (Fußball- und LeichtathletikVerband Westfalen e. V.) has established a new association. (FLVW) has decided in favour of a proactive pump exchange. The "Red card for energy guzzlers" project was implemented in May 2017. WILO SE developed the rehabilitation solution for the old pump inventory. Initially, all major energy consumers in the three areas of SportHotel, SportSchule and SportCongressCenter of the association were identified with the help of an inventory. More than 30 obsolete pumps were identified in the heating system. These were old, unregulated pumps with asynchronous motors. These were evaluated by means of a life cycle cost analysis (LCC analysis) and compared with high-efficiency pumps.
The newly installed high-efficiency pumps are characterised by optimised and demand-regulated operation and thus enable a significant reduction in energy costs from day one. With its pump exchange project, FLVW achieved electricity savings of up to 90 percent compared to the old, unregulated heating pumps. The pump exchange project was carried out by WILO with a cooperation partner for crowdlending - a special form of brokerage of private and corporate loans. Due to the fast and unbureaucratic procedure of crowdfinancing, the replacement of the old pumps with the new energy-efficient pumps could be implemented quickly and easily. With their investments, the investors (= the crowd) supported FLVW in their decision to replace the pumps. In addition, grants from the "Pump Promotion" funding programme of the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) and the "Deutschland macht's effizient" initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economics (BMWi) were used to finance the project. Added to this are the savings in energy costs that FLVW incurs every year.
energy efficiency measures
- Inventory of heating pumps
- Life cycle cost analysis (LCC analysis)
- Calculating a Financing Solution - Crowdlending
- Application for pump delivery at the BAFA
- Replacement of the old unregulated asynchronous motors by high-efficiency pumps
The jury will select the Football and Athletics Association of Westphalia as the winner of the Energy Efficiency Award 2017 in the Energy Management and Services category. By using new high-efficiency pumps, the energy consumption of the FLVW heating system could be greatly reduced. With the support of the BMWi and the innovative financing concept of WILO and kapilendo, the FLVW was offered an attractive financing package. The partnership between WILO and kapilendo for sustainability and energy efficiency shows that energy efficiency measures can be crowned with economic success. With this extraordinary showcase project, the association demonstrates that environmental awareness, sustainability and economic efficiency are compatible with each other.
The Football and Athletics Association of Westphalia e.V. (FLVW) is the umbrella association of all football and athletics clubs in Westphalia. It is one of the 21 regional associations of the German Football Association (DFB) and a member of the West German Football and Athletics Association (WFLV) and the German Athletics Association (DLV). With 7,600 employees, WILO SE is one of the world's leading suppliers of pumps and pump systems for building technology, water management and industry. The range of energy-efficient pumps offered by WILO SE and the use of innovative financing solutions (crowdfinancing) by kapilendo AG conserve resources and counteract climate change.
